Setting Godly priorities means focusing and pouring all our energy, talents, and time into things that matter to God, not us. As fallen, imperfect humans, we will always direct our God-given resources into the wrong things to satisfy our own desires and interests.
Our life is always what our priorities are. It’s where our heart is. It’s what matters to us and what we spend our time, energy and resources on the most.
God says our heart must be where Jesus’s heart was - seeking His Father’s will. Our eyes must be focused on Heaven and God’s Kingdom, because that God’s will for us.
If we put God first in everything we do, just like He commands us to do, if we obey His Word, we and whatever we do will be blessed.
PUT GOD FIRST, NOT YOUR ROUTINE. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”, Matthew 6:33.
Prioritize your relationships with God. Strive to know him closer every day. Plan to have time for Him in the morning, before you start your daily routine. Ask for His guidance and strength, for wisdom and a new, obedient heart. Obey His word and live a righteous life and God will take care of the rest.
WORK FOR GOD’S KINGDOM, NOT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. “Proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance”, Acts 28:31.
God is our main provider of all the things we need. We are commanded not to worry about food, cloth and even the roof above our heads. Working matters because we are creators and workers like God, but working for God’s Kingdom is what matters more than your office job. Focus your energy and resources on making disciples and preaching the Word rather than on building your bank account; serve people more than yourself; love God more than you love the world.
SEEK GOD’S WISDOM. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding”, Proverbs 2:6.
Don’t waste your time chasing the world’s wisdom and lies. The world tells you that your success depends on your degree, bank account, experience and faith in yourself. God says wisdom is of the Lord and we are already blessed and rich in Jesus. Following Jesus, not the world is the purpose of life.
PUT THE NEEDS OF OTHERS BEFORE YOUR OWN. “And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God”, Ephesians 5:2.
Jesus put our need for spiritual rebirth and the endurance of the hardship of our earthly life before his own needs. He could have refused to pay our debt. Why would He go through all the suffering and pain for us? Because that’s what love does. It enables us to do the same for others to show who He is to the world. So, we ought to prioritize loving people with Godly love instead of ourselves.
The way we live and manage our life matters more than we think. We waste so much time on multitasking and, as a result, fail to succeed because we have the wrong priorities.
We forget one thing - the purpose God created us for. He did not create us to multitask until we wear ourselves out.
God created us for enjoying life He gives us in Jesus.
And the only way to experience it is to prioritize Him in our life.
