"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us", John 1:14 (NIV)
We all have at least one favorite holiday to look forward to. Who wouldn’t like having a day off, a nice time with your family, or enjoying good food? There’s something about holidays that bring joy and happiness to our souls.
While the Bible does not tell us the exact day when Jesus was born, I believe that regardless of the culture you come from (in some countries Christmas is celebrated in January), celebrating Christmas with the right heart and to the glory of God is the good thing.
If for whatever reason Christmas is not one of your favorites yet, you might change your mind after you read the reasons why it’s the best time of the year.
THE BIRTH OF THE SAVIOR. This one reason can be enough for us to be excited about the holiday. The joy that comes from knowing that Jesus came into this world to give us life suppresses all understanding. God became flash to grant salvation to each of us personally. He is worthy of our attention and the celebration.
ALL THE GOOD GIFTS. Christmas combines all the good things God created for us to enjoy: family, food, fellowship, rest, giving. All in one day! All that brings pure joy. Christmas is the time when we can finally put our fast paced lives on hold and just enjoy them the way they were designed - reflecting on the goodness of the Lord our Savior and enjoy the company of those we love the most.
THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. This is the time that we are fascinated by the Christmas decorations and the lights. There’s something about them that draws our attention and brings us special joy. That’s because we were born to depend on God, the light of our life, his love and wisdom. Jesus fills that whole in our hearts being our guide and light in the dark world of sin.
THE REMAINDER OF GOD’S LOVE. Let’s admit it, we tend to be amnesiac when it comes to prioritizing the right things in our life: we forget to eat healthy, to work out, to love and serve others, and even to love Jesus and follow his ways. As humans, we are in need of the Savior! Christmas is the reminder to all of us about who God is, why Jesus was born, and what His coming to earth means to each of us.
THE NEW BEGINNING. Aren’t you excited to celebrate a new beginning? A first day at our new job, a first day of school, a first anniversary of a married life, a first birthday of a baby. A first time of something. Jesus was born one time too and it was for a unique and very special reason - to bring the end to the sin of mankind. Isn’t that another exciting reason to celebrate Jesus for you as a Christian?
Christmas is ineed the most wonderful holiday of the year and there are so many reasons for that to be so. Do you agree?
What do you like about Christmas the most?
