“The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it”. Genesis 2:15.
We are created to work. After the foundation of the world, Adam and Eve were put in Eden to work and maintain it. They were expected to do their best.
God is a worker himself. He is at work even right now. As God’s image bearers, we ought to work and do our best at anything we do.
Whether you are an employee, a stay-at-home mom, or a student, you have things to do. I believe that you try to do your best at whatever you do every day. And I am sure you want to be productive and see good results of your labor.
The key to being productive is to be efficient at what you do. It means quality over quantity.
When we try to accomplish 10 things a day but don’t have enough time planned for each of them, we will end up getting nothing done at all. Therefore, we need a simple routine. People work best from routines, not lists. That’s what George Washington did. He had a simple, daily routine of work and rest, and achieved his daily goals.
Routine works great if it’s not interrupted.
Think about things that get in the way of your daily progress. Is it constant scrolling of your IG? Maybe it’s checking your emails. Maybe that’s notifications ringing on your phone every minute. Whatever it is, it must be handled right.
Block your time for everything you need to do. Turn off all the notifications. Plan time for checking your emails only once a day (if it’s not work related). Let people know that you do not reply to their 5 minute long audio messages right away. It’s okay to set boundaries with people and protect your own time. You will do more harm to your communication by listening or reading those texts and replying fast, rather than taking time to do that when you have enough time for a quality reply.
Remember about boundaries. It’s okay to set them when planning your time. Don’t feel guilty about not replying to text messages right away. People aren’t likely to be waiting for you to do that immediately. They have their own work to take care of. Besides, think about your mental health. How do you feel doing 5 things at once? Do you think it’s worth it?
Living a balanced life is possible. With God all things are possible, after all, aren’t they?
God delights in our being responsible and hardworking, and trusting in His provision and guidance in the midst of everything we do and struggle with.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
While life might get busier each day and tasks piled up, do your best and leave the rest to the Lord.
